White Nights
Disclaimer : This is not a book review this is an opinion piece. Everytime I read a book I might/might not have an opinion on it, I like to write down my opinion so that I can store my thought in the time capsule to visit it later.
Give that man a hug, was my immediate reaction as I read the last line. The ironically funny part is that we never get to know the name of the protagonist in the whole story. I want to name him and give him an identity, I will call him Jacob.
Was the Jacob in selfless love? Or had he lost respect for himself? Or had he lived so much in his head that he forgot how to live for himself in the real world? All of these questions riddled me while I lingered over the idea of loving someone at the cost of your own self.
If you have experienced falling in love, you might have experienced being the Nastenka as well as being the protagonist at times. Nastenka blind and in need of love that she does not care about whom she is falling in love with. And Jacob in dire need to find the belonging that his selfish need of finding himself comes at a cost of his self respect.
